At the Choral Arts Ensemble's A Singing Valentine benefit event February 12, 2011, a new collaboration and carol series was announced: The Lloyd Ketterling Christmas Carol.
Lloyd Ketterling (father to CAE tenor Rhett Ketterling and grandfather to CAE alto Morgan (Ketterling) Hollister) was a long-time public school choir director, including 21 years at John Marshall High School here in Rochester, and a huge influence on the lives of hundreds of students who crossed his musical path.
In his honor, family, friends and former students have endowed this new series so that Choral Arts Ensemble can continue this wonderful tradition of commissioning a new Christmas carol every year for 10 years. The inaugural Lloyd Ketterling Christmas Carol will be written by René Clausen of Concordia College (of which Mr. Ketterling is an alumnus) and will premiere at the Christmas with Choral Arts Ensemble concerts in December of 2011.
The CAE Christmas concert will inspire you inside the beautiful walls of Lourdes Chapel at Assisi Heights, one of Rochester’s most beloved spaces. The first annual Lloyd Ketterling Christmas Carol will be premiered alongside works by Francis Poulenc, Tomas Luis de Victoria, Eric Whitacre, and John Rutter. Join CAE and guest conductor David Dickau for this eclectic program that will be sure to lift your holiday spirits to new heights!
